Northumberland Wedding Photography

The Northumberland Wedding Photography -  featuring my favourite images from this stunning venue.

I LOVE this family! I’ve been the photographer for every one of the siblings’ weddings – and there are five of them. I’m really sad that Abigail is the last to get married because I’ll miss them all. Since I’ve known them (I photographed their first wedding in August 2016), there have been three new additions to the family and I feel like I’m a part of their story.

I just love the connection between them – they obviously adore each other but that doesn’t stop them from ribbing each other mercilessly.

The bridal preparations

The prep is always loads of fun with this family. There’s a LOT of banter and a LOT of bubbly. They’re really close-knit and tears are never very far away on occasions like this – I got some great photos of them breaking down in tears, but also captured a ton of love and laughter between them as they went off and had their private moments together, sharing gifts and stories.

I’m afraid I did my usual trick which is to shake the champagne before the bride opens it. It always catches them off guard and makes for some hilarious and genuine photos when it sprays everywhere! If I was hoping to faze Abigail though, it didn’t work – she just started drinking it straight out of the bottle!

Healey Barn in Corbridge, Northumberland

Healey Barn is a great venue – The Long Barn which is used for ceremonies has big oak beams and a huge fireplace at one end. It’s lit by candles and really atmospheric. There are woodlands to the right and huge open fields to the left – what fantastic views!

And then – the bride cried through the entire ceremony! And the bridesmaids cried a fair bit too. The confetti throwing has become a bit of a thing with this family – they make a point of chucking it straight in the couple’s faces just to help me get a good photo. Love them all for that!

This wedding was all about the party

One of the nicest things about the family is that there really is no formality with them. It’s all about spending time with people they love and having a ball. During the speeches, if anyone went over their allotted time, they got shot with a ‘nerve gun’ by the father of the bride.

When I look back at this wedding, it was Abigail’s nephew who stole the show. He not only signed the register as a witness, but he delivered the most amazing speech at the reception, standing on a chair, wearing sunglasses. It was funny, clever and had everyone in stitches. And he’s only 7 – unbelievable.

He’s a lucky boy because he’s clearly inherited the family’s quite brilliant sense of humour. It was an awesome speech and he went down a storm.

Then, just as the sun was going down, I took the bride and groom into the woods for some more photos of just the two of them. The huge pine trees seem to give a real sense of Abigail and Sam against the world, and the deep green looked stunning against Abigail’s dress.

During the day, two whole pigs had been roasting outside for the 90 guests – and later, we ‘pimped’ some marshmallows over firepits. It was an epic day with lots of tears and laughter.

I’m super happy for Abigail and Sam – congratulations, you two – but sad that my work here is done.
