Liz & Karl – Staunton Harold Hall Wedding Photographer
If you’ve ever visited Staunton Harold Hall, you’ll know it’s one of those rare wedding venues that truly takes your breath away.
Exclusive, elegant, and full of character, it’s a dream location for any wedding photographer in Derbyshire. So when Liz and Karl asked me to capture their big day there, I couldn’t have been happier.
A relaxed morning with family
Liz wanted a calm, low key morning surrounded by close family… but with plenty of little ones running around, there was no shortage of fun and laughter. Meanwhile, Karl was getting ready off-site (and taking the chance to visit a local pub, almost certainly under the influence of his best man!).
As guests began to arrive, the atmosphere around Staunton Harold started to build. One of the things I love about this venue is how everything is within easy reach, it means I can photograph those natural, in-between moments while still keeping close to all the excitement of bridal prep.
An emotional ceremony and beautiful light
Liz’s daughter walking her down the aisle was such a special moment, the kind that reminds you why I love capturing weddings in such a natural way. The ceremony room at Staunton Harold is filled with stunning natural light, perfect for photographing every expression, tear, and smile.
After the vows, guests gathered outside for the confetti throw (which, as usual, resulted in the groom getting a mouthful!) before we took a few relaxed family photos. Honestly, the backdrop here makes even the simplest shots look incredible.
Music, laughter, and a proper celebration
As the afternoon breeze picked up, guests moved inside for drinks, one of the guests took over the piano and filled the air with live music. It was such a joyful moment, and a great reflection of the atmosphere of the day.
Dinner was a BBQ-style feast, one of the perks of being a wedding photographer is definitely getting to sample a bit of that! The speeches were full of humour, emotion, and personality, everything you’d want from a wedding like this.
Portraits and a Star Wars twist
After the meal, we made some relaxed couple portraits around the grounds. My approach to wedding photography is always natural and unposed, I want couples to feel completely themselves, and that’s exactly what Liz and Karl did.
Then came the first dance, but not before a surprise twist. A few days earlier, Liz had emailed to say they’d bought light sabres after a rather tipsy night out, and a full-on Star Wars-style battle was planned. It was hilarious, chaotic, and the perfect way to end an incredible day.
